The Empress: Season 3 | Official Trailer | Netflix
The third and final season of Netflix's The Empress follows Elisabeth as war trauma, Franz's infidelity, and court resistance strain her marriage and force a choice between personal freedom and duty.
An Imperial Marriage Unraveling After the War
The third season of *The Empress* begins with Emperor Franz returning after the Sardinian War. The guilt of losing so many young men on the battlefield deeply shakes him, while Elisabeth tries to preserve their marriage and insists on what the empire needs. But Franz’s infidelity and opposition from the court drive the couple further apart.
Elisabeth Leaves Vienna
Driven out by her declining health and pressure from the court, Elisabeth leaves Vienna for a distant island. Along the way, she meets Count Andrássy, a leader of the Hungarian Revolution, making the conflict between her duties as empress and her own feelings even more pronounced. Franz’s brother Maximilian embarks on a path toward becoming emperor of Mexico alongside his wife, Marie.
A Final Chapter Told in Six Episodes
This season is the six-episode final season of *The Empress*. Devrim Lingnau Islamoğlu and Philip Froissant return as Elisabeth and Franz, respectively, joined by Melika Foroutan, Johannes Nussbaum, Josephine Thiesen, Runa Greiner, Dejan Bućin, and others. Florian Cossen and Julia Langhof direct, with Katharina Eyssen serving as showrunner. The season premieres worldwide on Netflix on November 12, 2026.
