Lock’s Quest has launched on iOS and Android through Crunchyroll Game Vault. Originally introduced on Nintendo DS and later remastered for consoles and PC, the title has been added to a mobile subscription service. Unlike purchase-based mobile games, it requires a Crunchyroll Mega Fan or Ultimate Fan membership to access.
Building Before Fighting Directly
In this game, players control Lock, a young Archineer who witnesses an invasion of his village. While a war unfolds between the kingdom’s forces and the mechanical army led by Lord Agony, a building phase comes first, during which players place walls, turrets, and traps within a limited time. In the following combat phase, players directly move Lock to fight alongside the defensive structures, repair damaged buildings, or use special attacks.
Dividing Roles Between Tower Defense and Action
The key point is that the game does not end with defensive placement alone. Choices made during the building phase determine the enemy’s routes of approach and the placement of firepower, while in the combat phase, the player’s movement and attacks fill in the gaps. As a result, the game requires both the judgment to complete a fortress quickly and the ability to operate Lock on the battlefield.
Features Included in the Remastered Version
The mobile version includes a 75-day campaign spanning 12 maps, high-resolution character portraits, and revised gameplay. It also offers ‘Antonia Defense,’ an endless mode in which players defend the capital using kingdom units. The lack of ads and individual in-game purchases is an advantage, but the fact that access to the game is tied to a Crunchyroll membership makes for a different way of using it.
