Bong Joon-ho’s Animated Film Ally Set for French Release on July 14, 2027, and South Korean Release in July

Bong Joon Ho's first animated feature Ally, about a piglet squid from the deep South Pacific, opens in France on July 14, 2027 and in South Korea in July 2027.

〈Ally〉(Ally) is director Bong Joon-ho’s first feature-length animated film. Ally, a baby pig-nosed squid living in the deep South Pacific, dreams of seeing the sun someday and becoming the subject of a wildlife documentary. When an unidentified aircraft sinks into the sea and threatens her home, Ally embarks on a journey toward the surface with some unexpected friends.

Bong Joon-ho directed and produced the film and co-wrote the screenplay with director Yoo Jae-sun of 〈Sleep〉. The film is being produced in English, with Alex Jane Go voicing Ally, and features Ayo Edebiri, Bradley Cooper, Dave Bautista, Finn Wolfhard, Rachel House, and Werner Herzog. Animation and visual effects are by DNEG, while the score is by Marco Beltrami of 〈Snowpiercer〉. The production company is Barunson C&C.

In October 2026, Barunson C&C confirmed that the French release date is July 14, 2027, and announced that the film will also be released in South Korea that same month. The exact South Korean date has not yet been announced.

Distribution will be handled in South Korea by CJ ENM, in France, Benelux, and Switzerland by Pathé, and in North America by Neon, which distributed 〈Parasite〉.
