Quad Remesher for Hard-Surface & Organic Blender Models
Smart Remesh 3 is a Blender retopology add-on for hard-surface and organic models. It emphasizes approximate target face-count control in Manual mode and cleanup of unnecessary loops.
Smart Remesh 3 is a retopology add-on that organizes Blender models weighed down by hundreds of thousands to millions of triangles into more manageable meshes. It focuses especially on workflows that aim to quickly obtain results close to a target polygon count when the number of faces after automatic remeshing is difficult to predict.
Manual Mode for Setting the Target Face Count
With conventional automatic remeshers, the resulting polygon count may differ from the target entered. Smart Remesh 3’s manual mode is designed to bring the final face count close to the specified value—for example, when 20,000 is entered. Since it does not guarantee an exact match, projects with strict limits, such as game LODs or engine budgets, still require checking the result and making additional adjustments.
Two Different Types of Meshes
For hard-surface models, the key is removing edge loops that do not contribute to the form and cleaning up flat panels. For organic models, it is important to build uniform topology that follows curved surfaces. Even with the same polygon reduction, preserving the silhouette of mechanical parts and maintaining surface flow on character or scan models involve different criteria, so treating the two types separately makes a practical difference.
Use in the Production Pipeline
This tool is well suited for passing difficult-to-edit source assets—such as high-density sculpts, scan data, and complex Boolean results—to the next stage. After remeshing, joints and areas requiring detailed deformation should be checked against the needs of UVs, baking, rigging, or subdivision. Automatic cleanup reduces repetitive work, but it does not replace reviewing animation edge flow or the final asset specifications.
