Animation Is Film 2026 will be held at TCL Chinese 6 Theatres in Hollywood from October 16 to 19. The key point this year is that an animated series will headline the opening program for the first time. Rather than a schedule limited to feature-film competition entries, it also includes series, shorts, and production-process presentations, giving audiences a wider range of options depending on their viewing interests.
Opening with 《Knights of Guinevere》
At 7 p.m. on opening day, episodes 1.01 and 1.02 of GLITCH Productions’ 2D animated series 《Knights of Guinevere》 will be screened together in theaters for the first time. The psychological thriller follows engineers Frankie and Andy, who live beneath the airborne theme park Park Planet and discover a malfunctioning android princess, Guinevere. A panel and Q&A featuring co-creator Dana Terrace are also scheduled after the screening.
Check the competition entries by date and theater
The feature competition begins on October 16 with 《ghost – end of night》 and 《O filho da puta (Son of a Bitch)》, followed on the 17th by 《Julián》, 《Tangles》, and 《Jim Queen》, and on the 18th by 《The Violinist》, 《Iron Boy》, 《VIVA CARMEN!》, and 《Cherry and Virgin》. Different programs overlap at TCL 1 and TCL 6 on the same day, so viewers prioritizing a particular director or feature competition entry should compare the theater and screening time together.
Programs beyond completed-film screenings
In addition to completed films, the lineup includes a 25th-anniversary screening and panel for Cartoon Saloon, a behind-the-scenes look at the production of Walt Disney Animation Studios’ 《Hexed》, and an in-progress presentation on the production of Matt Braly’s 《Clara and the Below》. The shorts are divided into Best of Annecy, two short-film programs, Student Showcase, and New Voices in Animation. Accordingly, viewers focused on completed new releases may want to prioritize the competition section, while those interested in production methods and industry trends should also choose the work-in-progress and ‘Inside Animation’ panels.
