The Police Arrive on the First Day of the Move
Concert pianist Lucy (Léa Seydoux) moves to the countryside with her family to help ease her husband Philip’s severe burnout. But before they even have time to settle into their new home, the police arrive early one morning, and the family life Lucy has trusted is shaken in an instant. The film follows Lucy as, after that visit, she is left alone between her love for her husband and her fear of not knowing what he may have done.
A Fracture Unfolding Through Lucy’s Eyes
Marie Kreutzer serves as both writer and director, placing the wife’s perspective at the forefront rather than the event itself. Lucy is a wife, mother, and musician, with distinct roles that pull her in different directions, while the suspicions surrounding her husband demand that she make both the judgment needed to protect her family and the judgment required to face the truth. The heart of the film lies in how a peaceful move to the countryside becomes not a safe new beginning, but the starting point for testing the trust within a relationship.
