A Darkness Only Two Can Cross

*Silk & Sorrow* is a dark-fantasy co-op horror adventure designed for two players to move together. Two orphans enter ‘Chrysalis,’ a hidden world where discarded objects, memories, emotions, and even people from the human world flow in. It once gained new life through light, but is now submerged in darkness and decay, and the two must pass through its unfamiliar ecosystem to discover the cause.

Depth Created by 2D Layers

The game’s visuals are built from 2D sprites rather than 3D models. Background objects such as trees and piles of trash are stacked in multiple layers, with different parallax speeds applied to each layer around the camera’s center to create depth as the viewpoint moves. Lighting layers and color adjustments are added as well, making flat images appear like single objects with height.

A Cooperative Structure That Divides the Light

The creatures of Chrysalis threaten the players, and progressing requires communication and problem-solving. Their companion creature, Glint, illuminates paths through the darkness and grows stronger by being fed fireflies. Rather than having each player act independently, the game relies on sharing information and complementing each other’s movement to sustain both its horror and exploration. According to the Steam listing, the game is scheduled for release in 2027, though an exact date has not yet been announced.
