Mind-Blowing Cinematic with Inception-Style World Bending Made in Blender
A short cinematic experiment by 3D artist beckett77, created in Blender. As the camera passes through a mirror, locations unfold in a continuous transition.
As the camera passing in front of a mirror moves through its surface, the rules of the space on screen change. 3D artist beckett77’s *Testing Out a Transition Idea* is a short cinematic experiment that, rather than simply cutting from one location to the next, connects the environments across the boundary of a mirror.
The Transition Path Created by the Mirror
The core of the video is the camera’s movement. Because the location unfolds in sync with a single motion toward and through the mirror, the change of scene feels less like an editorial break and more like a transformation of the space itself. Rather than taking in the next background as a separately prepared set, viewers perceive it as a new location revealed along the same path of movement.
Separating the Blender Production Process from Color Grading
beckett77 stated that the entire creative process, excluding grading, was handled in Blender. This can be seen as an example of coordinating modeling, scene composition, and camera direction within a single production environment. Separating the final color correction, meanwhile, makes it possible to handle the design of the spatial transition and the adjustment of the image’s color separately.
A Composition Focused on the Sensation of Movement Rather Than Effects
This work does not use the mirror merely as decoration for a special effect. The credibility of the transition depends on where the camera starts and the direction in which it passes through. Therefore, when designing a similar scene, it is more helpful for creating a natural flow to first align the camera speed and eye level before and after the mirror, along with the points where the two spaces connect, rather than adding increasingly complex spatial distortions.
