Being Heumann — Official Trailer | Apple TV

Being Heumann is a drama based on the 1977 occupation of a federal building by disability-rights protesters. Ruth Madeley stars as Judy Heumann, with Siân Heder directing.

In 1977, Judy Heumann walks directly into the building toward the bureaucrats who refuse to take her calls. *Being Heumann* follows the action she began by occupying a federal building with her colleagues. According to Apple’s introduction, hundreds of protesters occupy government offices and refuse to leave until their demands are met, leading to the longest occupation of a federal building in U.S. history.

At the heart of the film is not only one person’s decision to stand up to a massive institution, but also a coalition improvised by people from different backgrounds. Ruth Madeley plays Judy Heumann, while Mark Ruffalo portrays Joseph Califano, the bureaucrat who confronts them. Dylan O’Brien and Madeline Delph also appear in major roles.

The film is directed and written by Sian Heder of *CODA*. Based on a true story, it depicts the process of organizing voices against a system that treated people with disabilities as burdens. Set in the specific circumstances of 1977, the film shows what changes when an individual protest becomes collective action.

In the United States, it will first be released in select theaters on November 6, 2026, followed by its release on Apple TV on November 13. The runtime listed on the Apple TV page is 2 hours and 7 minutes.
