Season 3 of 『The Apothecary Diaries』 will begin on October 2, 2026, on Japan’s Nippon TV network’s FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT with Episode 49, “Locust.” This episode begins with breakfast at Verdigris House. Faced with locusts on the dining table, Maomao senses an inexplicable unease and begins tracing their identity, using her observations as an apothecary as a clue.
The story moves along two parallel axes. As Maomao follows small signs in everyday life, Jinshi comes to accept his original identity and responsibilities as the emperor’s younger brother. With Ruran’s lingering warning of “a sign of disaster that will overtake the country,” the anomaly discovered at the dining table and the nation’s unease are juxtaposed as mysteries of different scales.
Season 3 also expands the setting. The story will move from its focus on the inner palace to the city, and the journey is expected to continue to neighboring countries afterward. As rumors spread of a mysterious fairy who is said to bewitch people, Episode 49, “Locust,” presents the first clue that begins in Maomao’s daily sphere and leads to a larger incident.
The episode is directed by Akinori Fudesaka, with animation production by OLM. Maomao is voiced by Aoi Yuki, Jinshi by Takeo Otsuka, and Rena Ueda joins the cast as the new character Bai Niangniang. After the Japanese broadcast concludes, the episode is scheduled to be released sequentially on multiple streaming platforms.
