As a house is being transported across the sea, it is dragged underwater by an inexplicable force. The Netflix series *Below* begins with this ominous scene and follows an unidentified sea creature threatening a small fishing village in Newfoundland, Canada, and the residents’ response. The rugged coastal landscape is more than just a backdrop; it becomes the setting for a story about an isolated community forced to endure disaster together.

At the center is fisherman Calvin Penny (Josh Hartnett). Haunted by his father’s mysterious death decades earlier, he joins forces with marine researcher Fonda Hawnder (Mackenzie Davis) to uncover the creature’s true nature and the secrets buried on the island. His determination to protect his family, including his son Wade (Charlie Heaton), adds the weight of family history to the suspense of confronting the monster.

Creator Jesse McKeown’s six-part limited series weaves together local mythology, tension, and the humor of a close-knit community. Episodes were directed by Jamie Childs, Helen Shaver, and Steven Dunn, with Ruby Stokes, Rohan Campbell, Willow Keane, and Caleb Horn also appearing. All episodes were released on Netflix on October 8, 2026.
