Introducing DIFFUSE | Runway

Runway unveiled DIFFUSE, a web platform for finding and hiring AI-native creative talent, on September 22. The announcement expands beyond providing video-generation tools to include hiring connections, creating a channel for brands, agencies, and studios seeking to introduce generative AI into their production processes.
A Structure Connecting Portfolios and Hiring
On DIFFUSE, independent creators, boutique studios, and production companies that have integrated AI into their production pipelines can create profiles and publish portfolios. Companies on the other side can search for the talent they need and connect with them directly. Unlike posting a job opening and waiting for applications, the platform allows companies to review candidates first, focusing on examples of their work.
The Skills It Targets
Runway describes the platform’s target users as “AI-native” talent. This refers to artists, directors, and visual storytellers who use generative AI tools in actual visual storytelling and production work. As a result, rather than simply whether someone uses the tools, the key information in the connection process is what production experience and work they demonstrate in their portfolios.
Significance and Limitations in Hiring Practice
For production organizations, the platform can serve as a channel for finding external talent with AI-related experience, while for creators it can become a space to expose their work to companies with specific needs. However, the platform does not directly guarantee employment, and hiring conditions, compensation, and contract scope must be determined separately by each company and professional after they connect.
Runway analyzed around 1,000 creative job postings from approximately 400 companies and said that 17% of them mentioned AI technology or generative tools. This figure is the company’s basis for asserting that demand exists for AI-related capabilities, but the sample and criteria of the study should also be considered before interpreting it as a statistic representative of the overall employment market.
