When the son of Los Angeles mayoral candidate Mark Kimball and his wife Abigail is kidnapped, the crisis in Animals strikes both the election campaign and their home. They must raise the ransom, and in the process confront the choices they have kept hidden and the cracks in their relationship. Netflix’s official synopsis explains that the crisis demands a decision that could tear apart the couple’s world.

The official trailer intercuts the politician’s public image—shaking hands with voters—with private family moments and frantic calls after the kidnapping. Ben Affleck as Mark and Kerry Washington as Abigail are at the center, while Gillian Anderson appears as Dale, a fixer who pressures them to reveal their secrets. The story shifts from a simple ransom negotiation into a test of how far the couple can trust each other to get their child back.

Affleck co-wrote the screenplay with Connor McIntyre and Billy Ray and directed the film himself. Steven Yeun, Adriana Paz, Luis Gerardo Méndez, and Ray Fisher also star, and the film was produced with the participation of Artists Equity and Makeready. It has a runtime of 1 hour and 48 minutes and will be released on Netflix on October 9, 2026.
