In episode 51 of The Apothecary Diaries, Maomao answers a plea to treat a sick girl from an impoverished family. An unexpectedly luxurious pastry the girl ate becomes the suspicious clue at the center

TV anime 『The Apothecary Diaries』 episode 51, “If There Is No Bread,” will air on Nippon TV-affiliated FRIDAY ANIME NIGHT on October 16, 2026. This episode begins with a man’s plea when he visits the apothecary early in the morning. He begs Maomao to look after his sick daughter, and Maomao reluctantly follows him to a shabby house near the pleasure district.

There, she finds an older sister slumped weakly and a younger sister who has grown frail. The older sister explains that she fed her younger sister a baked confectionery obtained through begging. However, Maomao’s suspicions are aroused by the fact that the confectionery is far too expensive to be food given to the poor. The way the story examines both the condition of the child in need of treatment and the source of the food clearly demonstrates this work’s approach, in which the apothecary Maomao’s deductions begin with abnormalities in everyday life.

This is episode 51 by the continuous episode count for Season 3. Season 3 began airing on Nippon TV-affiliated networks on October 2 and is broadcast every Friday at 11 p.m. Episode 51 features Aoi Yuki as Maomao and Takeo Otsuka as Jinshi. Akinori Fudesaka is the director, and animation production is by OLM.
