The Legend of Zelda Live-Action Film Confirmed for Worldwide Release on April 30, 2027

Wes Ball's live-action The Legend of Zelda, starring Benjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason, moved up a week to a worldwide release on April 30, 2027.

〈The Legend of Zelda〉(The Legend of Zelda) is a live-action fantasy adventure film based on Nintendo’s video game series of the same name. It is being produced jointly by Nintendo and Sony Pictures, with series creator Shigeru Miyamoto and Avi Arad involved as producers. Miyamoto stated that the absence of a subtitle in the title was intentional and that viewers would understand why after seeing the film.

Wes Ball of *The Maze Runner* series is directing, and T. S. Nowlin wrote the screenplay. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth plays Link, with Bo Bragason as Princess Zelda. Uli Latukefu (Ganondorf), Dichen Lachman (Impa), and Yvonne Strahovski are also part of the cast.

Filming began in Wellington, New Zealand, in November 2025 and wrapped in April 2026. The release date was initially moved from March 26, 2027, to May 7, then brought forward by one week to April 30 after Miyamoto announced the change directly on social media in May 2026.

It is scheduled for worldwide release on April 30, 2027, distributed by Sony Pictures. A separate domestic release date has not been announced.
