Blender Is Hiring: New Job Openings for Software & DevOps Engineers

Blender has announced openings for a Senior Software Engineer and a Junior/Regular DevOps Engineer. Both roles support the open-source 3D creation suite, but differ in their work arrangements and tech

Blender has announced openings for two positions: Senior Software Engineer and Junior/Regular DevOps Engineer. As an organization developing free, open-source 3D creation software, it is strengthening both product capabilities and operational infrastructure; the two postings support the same project at different levels.

Division Between Product Code and the Operating Environment

The Senior Software Engineer role focuses on experience with C++, Python scripting, and cross-platform application development. Experience with CMake and Git/Git LFS is required, while an understanding of GPU programming stacks such as OpenGL, Vulkan, and Metal is preferred. Since Blender provides a single production pipeline spanning modeling, animation, and rendering, this role is closely tied to expanding the product itself across multiple operating systems.

The DevOps Engineer, meanwhile, is responsible for maintaining running services, applying security updates, building pipelines to automate development processes, and improving existing tools. Python or shell scripting, Unix-like systems, and infrastructure-as-code concepts are basic requirements, while experience with Terraform, Ansible, Docker, virtualization, and container operations is preferred. Unlike a role that creates product features, this position handles the foundation for reliably operating development and community services.

Options Differing by Work Arrangement

The software engineering role recommends joining the Amsterdam headquarters while also considering applicants who prefer remote work. The DevOps role assumes 32–40 hours of on-site work per week and close collaboration with the headquarters infrastructure team. In other words, the former offers a more direct scope for those strong in C++-based product development and platform expansion, while the latter is better suited to experience with self-hosted services, automation, and operational reliability.

Blender is a free, open-source 3D creation software project coordinated by the Blender Foundation and built by thousands of contributors. These two roles show a structure in which professional staff separately oversee product code and the operating environment while maintaining the open development model.
