Live-Action How to Train Your Dragon 2 Set for North American Release on June 11, 2027
Dean DeBlois's live-action remake of How to Train Your Dragon 2, with Cate Blanchett returning as Valka, opens in North America on June 11, 2027.
〈How to Train Your Dragon 2〉 is a live-action adaptation of DreamWorks Animation's 2014 film and a sequel to the 2025 live-action 〈How to Train Your Dragon〉. Set five years after the first film, it follows Hiccup as he reunites with his long-lost mother, Valka, and faces Drago Bludvist, who seeks to conquer the world with an army of dragons.
Dean DeBlois, who wrote and directed the animated trilogy and the first live-action film, returns as writer and director. The first film's cast—including Mason Thames (Hiccup), Nico Parker (Astrid), Gerard Butler (Stoick), and Nick Frost (Gobber)—will return, while Cate Blanchett, who voiced Valka in the animated films, joins in the same role. Ólafur Darri Ólafsson plays Drago, and Phil Dunster plays Eret.
Filming began at Sky Studios Elstree in London in January 2026 and wrapped in May.
Distributed by Universal Pictures, the film will be released in North America on June 11, 2027. A domestic release date has not been announced.
