What kind of cracks might appear when black metal band activities intrude on the daily life of an ordinary family? The Finnish animated sitcom *Belzebubs* begins with stay-at-home dad Sløt trying to juggle three roles at once: loving husband, responsible father, and the band’s vocalist. The series premiered on Finland’s Yle Areena on September 24, 2026.

Black Metal Recast as a Family Drama

Sløt’s wife, Lucy, is a working professional who supports the family financially, while their teenage daughter Lilith develops a crush on a “normal” boy she meets at school. The family’s life, including youngest child Leviathan, deals with realistic conflicts such as parenting, adolescence, and money problems, but plays them out through exaggerated devices like demon summoning and black metal. The black-and-white visuals combine the gothic atmosphere of the original webcomic with the everyday feel of a sitcom.

From Webcomic to a 13-Episode Series

Based on the webcomic of the same name created by JP Ahonen, the series consists of 13 22-minute episodes. It is directed by Samppa Kukkonen, with Movimenti Production and Mago Production co-producing alongside Pyjama Films Oy. In the English version, Andrew Wheildon-Dennis voices Sløt and Jess Robinson voices Lucy, while Banijay Kids & Family has secured the international distribution rights.

The Dream of Music and the Weight of Everyday Life

The central conflict of the series is that Sløt’s desire to become a global black metal star continually collides with the everyday demands of family life. Through this contrast, *Belzebubs* goes beyond recreating the genre’s costumes and rituals, using comedy to explore how family members negotiate one another’s goals and frustrations. Both Finnish- and English-language versions are available, making the series accessible to fans of the original as well as international viewers.
